The City of Dawson Creek has experienced significant storm events in the last ten years that have caused considerable flood damage. Due to a changing climate, it is expected that flood events will be exacerbated in the coming years and it is important for local governments to understand what the impacts of future floods will be. Working with Ebbwater Consulting, SHIFT Collaborative provided specialized engagement support for development of an initial risk assessment. Our approach considered a range of values and concerns of stakeholders while also building participants’ understanding and capacity to act collectively, enhancing the likelihood that resulting actions will build the city’s resilience to future flood risk.
