Our focus areas

We bring our process expertise to support a wide range of groups and issues, and offer specialized experience some of the most pressing issues facing the world today.

Climate change

We understand climate change not only as a technical and environmental problem but also a human and social one. We focus on addressing the climate crisis by building the conditions and capacities needed to support sustainable change from the inside out—in individuals, groups, organizations, and communities.

Housing for all

The current housing crisis requires fresh thinking and new approaches to develop and test new solutions to persistent, complex housing challenges. We focus on bringing together diverse sectors and perspectives to co-develop potential housing solutions that address entrenched challenges such as housing affordability, accessibility, inclusion, and environmental sustainability.

Thriving and resilient communities

Building healthy, strong communities that can thrive and adapt to emerging challenges is at the core of our work, and we bring decades of community development experience to our processes with local governments and a wide range of community-based organizations. The local community scale offers unique opportunities to affect change, and SHIFT Collaborative supports this through facilitating dynamic community engagement, collective planning and action to improve community social, environmental and economic wellbeing.

Sustainable food systems

Sustainable food systems are not just about producing enough food but involve a combination of factors such as access to culturally appropriate and nutritious food, Indigenous food sovereignty, economic stability, social equity, and environmental sustainability. These challenges are interconnected, requiring comprehensive and holistic approaches. We support multiple sectors to work together to create the conditions for healthy and sustainable food systems for all.
