The problem they came to us with
How might we gain an understanding and appreciation of the diversity of perspectives around weight across the continuum of care?

Our work
The Ministry of Health’s Office of Nutrition Policy and Promotion (ONPP) provides leadership and policy direction to support the nutritional health and wellbeing of all British Columbians. Given the changing context and diverse understandings of weight among partners working across the continuum of care, the ONPP has identified working towards a shared understanding of weight in BC as a key priority. In a context where there are increasingly different and even sometimes conflicting perspectives on weight, the ONPP engaged SHIFT Collaborative to support the facilitation of a series of three dialogues between January-April 2023 with the intention of creating a space to explore different perspectives and to move towards a shared understanding of weight. Moving forward, learnings from this dialogue series will help to inform BC’s approach to weight including policy, practice, public health messaging and provincial programs.
