Our work
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change. Working Group I of the IPCC engages over 200 scientists from all parts of the world who need to collaborate to share research, expertise and come to agreement about the implications of the data. Throughout 2019 and 2020, SHIFT Collaborative supported three Lead Author meetings by providing training and dialogue opportunities around strengthening diversity, inclusion, collaboration and participatory decision-making. In 2021 – 2022, SHIFT Collaborative undertook a retrospective evaluation of these participatory and inclusive practices. Through survey and focus groups, authors reported a deepening culture of inclusion, and improvements in participatory mindsets and practices. The final evaluation report highlights lessons learned and recommendations for furthering inclusion and collaboration.
